The Different Types of Truck Driving Jobs: Part 2

If you want to drive in teams or don’t want to work overnight, there are truck driving jobs for you as well!

In the first part of this blog, we discussed the most common types of truck driving jobs available: Company, Lease Purchase, and Owner Operator. This next part will go into the more unconventional options for truck driving jobs. Here are the second set of truck driving jobs to give you further insight on the options that you have.

Local Jobs

A truck driving career requires a lot of long hours on the road and away from home. Some people can not afford a lifestyle where they are constantly away from their homes and families. Luckily, there are local truck driving jobs that allow drivers to go back home at the end of the day. Local truck driving jobs allow you to transport freight only in the area so that you can work semi-normal hours. Most companies offer local positions, but they are generally limited and you must live in the area that is hiring.

Dedicated Jobs

This is more of a reward that comes from being a reliable, consistent truck driver for a company. Designated driving jobs are available through companies and are typically saved for drivers that have proven themselves. Of all the truck driving jobs, this may be the most desirable because it offers routine miles, consistent pay, steady pick up/delivery times, and allots you regular amounts of time to spend at home. Some companies will only offer this to drivers that have been there for years, while others will offer these positions to new drivers to attract them.

Team Jobs

When you see trucks driving down the road, you typically only see one person inside of the vehicle. However, there are team truck driving jobs available that allow you to get on the road with someone else. These truck driving jobs are good for freight that needs to be delivered in a certain time frame because the drivers can switch off instead of taking breaks. Team drivers are very hard to recruit and they will typically want the highest pay and biggest bonuses.
