Need For New Commercial Trucks Shows in Industry Statisticsclass 8 registrations

The main driving force behind the increase in Class 8 truck registrations seems to be the increased demand for larger fleets. Trucking companies are looking to invest in the new and improved technologies that have made the latest trucking models such hot commodities. Newer equipment is being made with safety and energy-efficiency in mind; newer equipment is also important to companies looking for a reliable alternative to their trucks that have simple run their course of time on the road.

What Other Factors Could Lead to Class 8 Registration Increases?

As trucking continues to evolve, the introduction of autonomous trucks, enhanced safety measures, eco-friendly designs, and more efficient engines will increase the demand for commercial trucks. Daimler Pushes for Autonomous Truck Support

Friday, May 22nd, 2015

A couple of weeks ago, we discussed the debut of the Freightliner Inspiration, Daimler Trucks’ amazing autonomous truck that was introduced to the world as it crossed the Hoover Dam entirely without aid of a driver. The future of autonomous trucks in the industry is looking bright, and Daimler Trucks is working to secure that future by making a push for official government approval. Read on to find out more!

Daimler Reps Want to Fast-Track Approval of Autonomous Trucksautonomous-trucks

The head of Daimler’s global truck and bus unit, Wolfgang Bernhard, has spoken recently about the importance of having their autonomous truck technology approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Because the realm of autonomous vehicles is a relatively new one, there are no current rules and regulations in place that can truly speak to the specific needs of these types of trucks. The increased prevalence of self-driving trucks in the future will have profound implications on the trucking industry when it comes to technology, truck design, vehicle maintenance, and the nature of professional truck driving as well.

Autonomous trucks are projected to improve efficiency within a fleet by not only reducing the stresses and strains truck drivers can sometimes experience, but also by implementing new safety technology that can prevent accidents and mishaps on the road. Once self-driving vehicles gain the official stamp of approval that they need, the trucking industry can expect a revolution in the way it does business.

Class 8 Truck Sales Lead to Capacity Changes

Tuesday, May 12th, 2015

Because of the increase in Class 8 truck sales, the trucking industry is about to face a series of capacity changes.

While many sectors face declining sales, the trucking industry continues to provide jobs and push the U.S. economy. Daimler Trucks North America realizes the demand for its vehicles, and CEO Martin Daum will help fill needs as the demand for Class 8 trucks grows.

Class 8 Truck Salesclass 8 truck sales

According to Daum, sales for medium and heavy-duty trucks were projected to grow by 10 percent, and sales could actually be even higher than projected. That is great news for the trucking industry, as Baum believes Class 6-8 sales could range between 4,11000 to 453,000 trucks. Again, this shows the demand for transporting goods in North America, and it is a great sign that companies and consumers are spending more.

Trucking Industry Stats

For just medium-duty trucks, sales in the United States are expected to remain some-what flat, and 100,000-103,000 medium-duty trucks are expected to sell. With that being said, Class 8 trucks may surpass 229,000 sales alone. This is positive momentum for the trucking industry, which helps to increase jobs and productivity. When you see more trucks on the road, it is a great sign for the economy of the United States!

Daimler Trucks North America

Daimler Trucks North America, or DTNA, is prepared for the increase sales and demand of Class 8 trucks. The company added capacity that could build an additional 27,000 trucks in 2015, and Daum thinks that may not even be enough to meet demand. The CEO stated that, “I have no fear those production slots will go empty, and in fact they may not be enough.” Daum also wanted customers to know that he acknowledges that relying on feasible technologies is important to meet customer expectations in terms of 18 to 24 month paybacks.

Autonomous Trucks: Transportation of the Future?

Thursday, May 7th, 2015

At over 726 feet high and a whopping 1,244 feet long, the Hoover Dam has long served as an inspiration for innovation in this country. Fittingly, the Hoover Dam was the introduction site of Daimler Trucks North America’s most impressive creation to date: the Freightliner Inspiration. This autonomous truck made its debut at the Dam this week, sparking major excitement throughout the trucking industry. Read on to find out more!

Freightliner Inspiration Crosses Hoover Dam- With No Driver!hoover-dam-freightliner-inspiration

Daimler Trucks North America chose to debut its Freightliner Inspiration autonomous truck at the Hoover Dam to show the full scope of its achievement and to set this historic accomplishment against an equally historic backdrop. The Freightliner Inspiration was able to maneuver the roadways and bridge without a driver present, displaying a level of technology unprecedented in the trucking industry. The Inspiration’s Highway Pilot system is responsible for its amazing autonomy: this includes camera technology, radar systems, collision avoidance tech, breaking and steering systems, speed control, lane stability, and more. The Highway Pilot system constitutes a breakthrough in trucking technology that will one day carry over to other truck models and increase the availability of autonomous trucks.

Are Autonomous Trucks Here to Stay?

The Freightliner Inspiration is, as of now, a truly unique creation in the field of autonomous truck design. Its impressive introduction, however, will no doubt encourage others to pursue new endeavors in this field. By building new autonomous trucks that have the advanced safety features and driving capacity of the Freightliner Inspiration, the industry will open new doors and create opportunities that mere decades ago we never would have dreamed of.
