Turning Your Truck Cab Into Your Second Home

Here are some ideas for personal elements you can add to make your truck feel like home.

When you spend hours, if not days, at a time on the road, trucking becomes more than just another job but a lifestyle. While it can be easy for truckers to fall into the trap of unhealthy habits and surviving from stop to stop, why not make your life on the road better? Since the cab of your truck is where you spend most of your time, it’s the perfect place to make your own. Here are some ideas for personal elements you can add to make your truck feel like home.

The Driver’s Seat

As a trucker, the driver’s seat is where you’ll spend most of your time. That’s why it’s important to make it comfortable and healthy. You can find numerous seat covers and supports online for any type of need. From ergonomic to lumbar support, and even heated seats for cold drives. Having a seat that you are comfortable in, and that helps you have a healthy posture will help prevent long hours of driving from taking a toll on your body.

Sleeping Arrangements

It’s pretty common for truckers to spend a night or two in their cab. For that reason, it’s better to go all out than try to rough it. Why not splurge on some quality bedding, pillows, and blankets to help you enjoy the night? If you have room to lie down, you can get a comfy mattress pad, for example. Also, window covers are ideal for helping you to block out the glare from streetlights. Since a large part of a successful long haul is having good rest, investing in things to help you get good quality sleep is a must.

Packing Snacks

There are many things you can pack for a long drive, especially when you get hungry. While it’s easy to pick up junk food along the way, with a little preparation, you can bring healthier snacks instead. Packing veggie or fruit snacks like carrot sticks, or some trail mix or low sodium crackers will give you the energy to focus on the road while also helping you stay on top of healthy habits. Plus, it’s almost always cheaper to buy things to prep your snacks at home than to pick up snacks at rest stops and gas stations where they’ve been marked up.
