Work Van Organization

You don’t want to waste a client’s time and money digging around in the back of your Sprinter Van for some misplaced tool.

Cleaning up your work van may be your least favorite chore, but it makes life undeniably easier. You don’t want to waste a client’s time and money digging around in the back of your Sprinter Van for some misplaced tool. Depending on what you keep in your van, it may even be dangerous to you to have your equipment loosely thrown all over the place. We’ve put together some helpful tips for getting your van organized and keeping it that way.

Trash Receptacles

Ideally, the front of your van will only hold some necessary clipboards, folders, and a travel mug to stay hydrated, but we know that our days are usually less than ideal. It’s normal to have a quick meal in the driver’s seat before heading to the next job or to be left holding onto some extra notepaper. Too often, the van gets cluttered with waste, making it a distracting and unattractive space. Preventing this is as simple as putting a designated trash bin in a convenient spot so that you don’t feel the need to throw garbage where it doesn’t belong.

Making Space in a Work Van

The wide-open space in the back of a Sprinter van, or any work van, is generally great to have. It’s not great for efficiently storing the many tools of all sizes that workers need to access throughout the day. The best way to go about storage is to use the walls and doors to your advantage. Setting up pegboards, shelves, bins, hooks, and other inexpensive storage solutions along the walls gets your things up off the floor and in plain sight.

Working Backwards

To save your back and some space in the back of the van, it’s usually best to keep your heavy tools on the floor. As you work your way up towards the ceiling, the tools should get lighter and smaller. Consider putting up some battery-operated lights to keep track of all those odds and ends up there. This will also help you on jobs that go on later into the night.
