Diesel Prices Level Out

diesel prices

Diesel prices are trending downwards.

The price of diesel fuel plateaued during the first week of May.  Over that week the prices increased by less than one cent nationally. These numbers come from the Energy Department, and reveal interesting tidbits about the current state of diesel in America and what it means for truckers, trucking companies and the trucking industry as a whole.

A Downward Trend Overall In Diesel

The average price of on-highway diesel fuel increased by half of a cent last week, which meant that it cost $2.271 per gallon of diesel. While this is a slight increase, it is not compared to 2015’s diesel prices at this time. In fact, this price is 60 cents cheaper than the cost of diesel last year during the same week. While this is not true across the board, the few areas where there were increases in diesel prices saw very small increases. The largest increase in price, 2.2 cents to be exact, occurred in the Rocky Mountain region. On the Gulf Coast, where you can find the cheapest diesel prices in America, the price of diesel decreased by 0.6 cents.

What Is The Cost Of Gasoline Nationally?

The average price of regular gasoline decreased by two cents from $2.24 per gallon to $2.22 per gallon. The price of a gallon of gas is, on average, roughly 47 cents cheaper than it was last year at this time. While gasoline prices show a downward trend overall, they have fluctuated by region. There was both a 4.7 increase in the Rocky Mountain region and a 6.7 cent decrease in price in the Midwestern United States.
