Tips For Getting Exercise While On The Road

It can be difficult for truck drivers to get exercise when they are always on the road, so here are some tips that can help!

It may be hard to stay fit as a truck driver because most of your time is spent sitting inside of your truck. Even though it may take a little more effort to get a workout in, it is very possible to do, and while on the road. When you are taking your rest stops, take a few minutes to get some exercise in. Here are a few tips for getting exercise while on the road

Walking/Running

You don’t need equipment or a destination to go for a walk or run. When you are taking a break from driving, take a short walk or run. In fact, 32 laps around your truck is the equivalent of a mile. If you don’t have a destination or a lot of room to walk, it’s no problem! Just do a few laps around your truck. Most truck stop terminals are large enough to allow you to get a nice walk or run in without having to leave the area.

Bring A Bike

A lot of truck drivers will bring a bicycle along with them on the road.  It can easily be strapped to the back of the truck so that it’s available whenever you are ready to use it. A fold up bike is also a great option because it can be easily stored inside of the truck. A lot of truck stops are actually located near biking trails or an area that you can ride through safely.

Exercise Equipment

There is equipment that can easily fit inside of your truck and be taken with you on the road. Dumbbells are compact and easy to fit in your bag, which can be used for simple weight training exercises. Kettlebells are another great option. It is just a cast-iron ball with a handle attached to it so it can be used for strength training as well. Resistance bands are great for taking with you and can be used to exercise the entire body.

Fitness Centers

Because of a truck driver’s hectic schedule, a lot of truck stops and company terminals are implementing gyms and fitness centers into them. That way, you have a designated place to exercise while you are taking a break from driving. Fitness centers aren’t present at every terminal or truck stop, but it is a trend that is spreading, making it easy for you to get a workout in before you get back on the road.
