Challenges that Everyone Experiences in Trucking

Here are some challenges that you can expect in trucking.

There’s a lot of great things that come with a career in trucking, like being able to travel and having the freedom of flexible hours. But the fact is that trucking can be a challenging job. Whether you are a rookie or a seasoned pro, the chances are that you will run into some problems. Here are some challenges that you can expect in trucking.

Traffic

Driving is much more difficult and dangerous in a semi-truck. For this reason, there are additional traffic regulations that you need to keep up with as well as more restrictions. For example, you will have to keep an eye out for road signs that are specific to trucks, such as warnings on an underpass where you can’t fit or sharp turns onto an exit ramp that could tip your truck. With all these extra considerations, you will also need to be careful of other drivers who might get into your blind spot while you’re on the highway. Driving a semi-truck isn’t impossible, but it takes focus and guts.

Parking

Probably one of the worst parts about driving a semi-truck is figuring out where to park it. Unless you find a rest stop or designated area for truck parking, then you won’t usually find many places to park. It can be impossible to park in an urban area, and if you need to pull over on the highway, then it’s a challenge to get back on the road. Parking is something you always have to keep in mind when traveling with a freight truck.

Deliveries

Since the main job of trucking is to make deliveries, it’s unavoidable sometimes to run into frustrating situations. Sometimes miscommunication will happen with a shipper or receiver, and it will complicate life. They might only be open at a certain time, or you have a tight window to make your delivery before you have to leave. Since truckers are paid by the mile rather than the hour in most cases, you don’t want to waste time waiting around. But with a large semi-truck, it’s not easy to change your plans on a dime, so one mishap can back up your entire schedule.
