Choosing The Right Freight Truck For Your Shipment

Dry vans, also known as box trucks, are the most popular option for interstate shipments since it keeps cargo protected.

A truck driver has to transport large shipments on a regular basis. Whether you work for a company or have your own independent one, the shipments that you transport will vary from time to time. It is important that you choose the right type of freight truck to get the shipment from one place to another safely. There are three common types of freight trucks in the U.S Here is some information on the types to help you choose the right freight truck for your Baltimore shipment.

Flatbed Trucks

This freight truck has an area for the driver and an open cargo bed trailer attached to it. The trailer is completely level so that it is easy to load and unload the cargo. They have a drop deck version that is used for taller loads. There are no sides or roof on this type of freight truck so it is ideal for durable and bulky freight. This includes things like cars, mobile homes, trees, and pipes. When the freight arrives at its destination, the items can easily be removed with a crane.

Refrigerated Trucks

As the name suggests, this freight truck has the ability to control the temperature inside of a closed trailer. It is used for freight that is perishable or heat sensitive. The internal temperature is adjusted according to the requirements of the shipper. Often times, these trucks are used to transport food items. However, they can also be used for things like pharmaceuticals that need to be refrigerated for safe transport.

Dry Vans

Also known as box trucks, these are the most popular for interstate shipments. A dry van has a safe box-like trailer attached to it that is completely closed in. This ensures that the cargo inside is safe despite any accidents or weather conditions. Most loading docks are made to accommodate these trucks specifically so it makes loading and unloading very easy. These trucks are only able load from the back of them so it can’t be used for unconventional products. Box trucks ship things like appliances, clothing, and furniture.
