Myths About Truck Parts

A truck cannot do its job without the right truck parts. As a truck driver, you know this. You need the truck parts that are of the highest quality so that they can go as long as possible without needing replacement. Baltimore Freightliner has one of the widest selections of parts in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. We stock as many as 26,000. We feel as though this qualifies us to speak about some of the commonly held myths about truck parts. Here are a few of the ones we most often see.

Here are a few myths people believe all too often about truck parts.

Rebuilt and Manufactured Parts are Synonymous

One of the most common misconceptions regarding truck parts is that rebuilt and manufactured parts are the same thing. This is simply untrue. When a part is rebuilt, the rebuilder replaces damaged components. If components are still in working order, they are reused.

In the case of remanufacturing, the end goal is to render the part as close to new as they can. The remanufacturer takes apart each individual component for replacement. The replacement components are either completely new or used components that have been scrutinized to ensure their quality. It follows that what you end up with in a manufactured part is practically as good as one that is brand new.

The More Expensive, the Better

This doesn’t just go for truck parts. Many people feel as though the more expensive something is, the better. It’s a fundamental part of human psychology. When you see a high price tag, you will probably assume it is priced highly for a reason.

When it comes to truck parts, price does not always correlate with quality. The truth is that relatively inexpensive aftermarket parts will get the job done in many circumstances. But if a price seems too good to be true, it probably is. You should always research your purchases and make sure that whatever you are buying is of good quality.

Parts Have to Come from the OEM

In the world of truck parts, people make a big fuss about the necessity of purchasing parts from the original equipment manufacturer, or OEM. In reality, aftermarket parts are a good option for most people. They are not of an inherently lesser quality than OEM parts, and they tend to be easier to get your hands on wherever you are in the country. In fact, in some instances, the quality of an aftermarket part may even be higher.
