How to Make Your Cab a Home Away from Home

With just a few personal elements, you’ll be riding in style when you make your truck’s cab a home away from home

Instead of working at a desk from 9-5, surrounded by picture frames full of your accomplishments and family vacations, you work from your cab (definitely not only 9-5!). While there are so many advantages to hitting the open road for your job, not feeling like you are truly at home can make nights sleeping in your cab less than pleasant. By adding some personal elements to your cab, you can transform your vehicle into your home away from home.

Get Comfortable in the Driver’s Seat

The driver’s seat is where you spend most of your workday, so it should be somewhere you are happy to sit. There are countless seat covers available in stores or online to meet a variety of needs or preferences. Have a very specific design in mind? There’s a seat cover for that. Need extra lumbar support? There’s a seat cover for that. Need something to keep your backside warm on long chilly drives? There’s even a seat cover for that.

Snuggle in to Sleep

Chances are, you spend most nights on the road sleeping in your cab. Don’t be afraid to invest a little extra in nice pillows, bedding, and blankets to use. Purchase a mattress pad or topper to keep your back and body feeling great after sitting all day long. Have a window that shines into your cab? Purchase curtains that are specially designed to block out light so you can nap anytime during the day and keep fatigue at bay.

Don’t Forget About Food

Staying healthy on the road while still eating easy to find food is an incredible challenge for most truckers. To avoid hitting up the drive-thru or diner every day, bring pre-prepared snacks and meals from your home to keep you smiling and save every last penny you can. Keep your mini fridge stocked with your favorite vegetables and fruit. Consider bringing your favorite home cooked leftovers with you on the road to help you feel like you aren’t sitting down to dinner alone.

Enjoy Your Favorite Entertainment

If you don’t already have your cab outfitted with satellite radio, consider adding it in to make your life more comfortable. Satellite radio gives you the ability to enjoy your favorite talk radio or music shows without having to constantly re-scan as you cross city and state lines. A small portable television also goes a long way towards making you feel at home even when you are on the road.
