Detroit Diesel Announces Production of New Powertrain Components
Detroit Diesel’s announcement detailed the various components of their latest innovation, the Detroit Powertrain. It will be comprised of their high-quality Detroit DD15 engine, the DT12 automated manual drive direct transmission, and specially-designed front and rear axles. Together, these components will make up a powertrain perfect for commercial trucks coming from well-known and respected brands. Freightliner’s Cascadia Evolution and Western Star’s brand new model, the 5700EX, will have the Detroit Powertrain available.
A Breakdown of the Detroit Powertrain’s Components
1.) The engine. The powertrain’s engine, the DD15, is a 400 horsepower engine designed with performance and fuel efficiency in mind.
2.) The transmission. The DT12 manual transmission from Detroit Diesel is a “smarter” transmission than those of yesterday; it comes with Detroit Diesel’s Intelligent Powertrain management, which utilizes GPS and mapping to help plan a route.
3.) The axles. The front and rear axles are reduce weight while also improving traction, making them a useful component of any commercial truck.
